Roman BathsChassenon occupies the place of the Gallo-Roman estate of Casiomagnus. Bordering the Agrippa Way, between Lyon and Saintes, the Gallo-Romans of the 1st century AD constructed temples, a theatre and public baths. In 1958 the first finds appeared - the remains of the Grand Baths visible today. The monument is grouped on two levels, four rooms, seven courtyards, twelve hot rooms and four pools. In a remarkable state of conservation, Chassenon holds one of the most important remains of antiques baths in Europe. Since 2005, new excavations of more than 20 hectares have been made available for public viewing. An annual programme of events takes place between April and the end of September.
