Barn House

View from bedroom through front room

Looking from the back room (bedroom) to the front. Lovely parquet floor? Yes... well, in parts!

'Attractive compact dwelling with period features'. Greasy, peeling faux hessian wallpaper! The brick effect around the fireplace had been achieved by painting concrete red and then scratching lines on it! the galvanised pipe leads to a 'Cuisenaire' a wood-fired cooker. Lots of work to do here then and our first project as this would be where we would live for the first few months.

The front room - kitchen, dining room, sitting room - tatty in the extreme and in desperate need of TLC

Staircase leading to upstairs

The staircase leads upstairs - however, the beam (visible in the picture) was only 3ft above the top step! The 1st floor was just a void, the wall between it and the 2nd barn wasn't full height and you can stand and lean over it to converse with someone in the barn!

Bedroom

Bedroom needs a bit of work too

Cuisenaire - just lit - with smoke pouring from every crack! We were exited when we saw the Cuisenaire. That was, until we lit it! Smoke poured from everywhere, the plates, the oven, round the doors, everywhere. When it had been extinguished and the smoke had cleared we removed the panelling to reveal layers of flaking rust throughout. With a 'Gallic shrug' we dismantled it and put it with the rest of the rubblish.
